[MW:16327] Re: Tapering and joint detail requirement

Hi Sourabh,
First of all, insufficient info as provided by you. You need to provide what is the design code for this piping? what is the welding code? ASME IX? What is your WPS says? As per your attachment, 28 mm groove weld only instead of 42 mm (thinner part)? What about the remaining 14 mm? Did you bevel that? If yes then why? Is that stated in Engineering frawing? I don't think you have access to weld the internal...

Dear Experts

we had carried out J-type groove welding for 10" Pipe with 10"Valve due to difference in thickness of Pipe(42 mm)  and valve(48 mm) and internal mismatch was removed by grinding on higher thickness. Now we have to do hydro testing at pressure of 430Kg/Cm2  for an internal mismatch joint. But Owner is asking for engineering approval of this before hydro test. Can you please tell us whether this is ok and what are the guidelines for tapering and joint details in this case and where it is referred in Piping Codes/Standard. Sketch is attached for reference.

Sourabh
