Re: [MW:16292] SIMULATION TEST REQUIREMENT FOR CARBON STEEL PLATE.

A little description @ Simulation Heat Treatment;

It is required and specified by owner to check material quality for future heat treatment cycles, So when we purchase the material we simulate the future heat treatment cycles and that's why it is called as SIMULATION Heat Treatment.

In simulation heat treatment soaking time is increased to required no. of cycles; e.g. for 25 mm thickness if 1 hr is the soaking time required then for additional 2 future cycles, soaking time is increased to 3 hours during simulated heat treatment of test coupon. ASME code also allows the same (refer SA 370). Simulation heat treatment is referred as SPWHT at some places in ASME Sec. II. Simulation heat treatment is covered under supplementary requirements of ASME Sec. II for example for carbon steel plates it is given in SA-20 Supplementary requirement S3.

Hope this will help.

Simulation test is not required as per API 650 for the mentioned
steel, refer para 5.7.4.6 of API 650. however if the requirement is
from contract specification you might have to perform.
