Re: [MW:5189] RE: 5170] welding Repair percentage

Hi soliman,
For lower dia. weld joints you will be using only one welder. If you go by joint wise RT then you will get the welder's performance also. For std, you can check your own project specific.

Thanks for all,

My contractor is proposing the calculation by the linear length wise .I disagreed with them and I am insisting the joint wise to have more control .I need any international standards that can support my situation as the owner specification does not specify the requirements.

Please remember this only for plant piping welding and we have different sizes from 84 inches till 1 inch, Maximum of the lines is sour services.

Regards

Soliman

Dear Soliman,

% weld repair based on linear length will be calculated as follows: Total length (mm) of the weld radiographed against total length (mm) of repairs which will give you the % of repair in length wise. In this you need to calculate the length of each repair based on RT film.

The % of repair will be very low in length wise compared to joint wise. As you indicted, joint wise is more practical compared to length wise.

Hi to all,

We are building new booster station ,our contractor wanted to calculate the repair percentage of the welding based on the linear lenght .Alwyas this should be calculated by the joint wise .Can any one refere any international standard that state how to calculate this rate. Please note that the client specs did not specify any thing on that.

Please send me your thoughts ASAP.

Regards

Soliman
