Change in groove design is essential in AWS unlike ASME ( AWS specifies many joint designations - Refer Fig 3.2 thorough Fig 3.6 )

Pre Qualified:

1) Clause 23 is not applicable in your case as both are butt.

2) Clause 24 applies here for your case, yes it is an essential variable, as it says change in groove weld details as shown in figures and does not says within the figures, hence change in as shown in the following figures (any) will be an essential variables.

By Qualification:

More over as you have mentioned PQR and WPS, i doubt this should be contemplated as per table 4.5, clause 31, 32, 33 and 34, in which you will get knocked and which will be essential varibale again as same above.

Please I have small query refer below Query.

1) Joint Details: In PQR Joint details given "SINGLE 'V' GROOVE.

But in WPS "SQUARE BUTT JOINT" Is it Acceptable..

as per table 3.7 AWS D1.1 Clause no-23 &24 Variable

WPS Joint Details as below.

Please any one give urgent reply for my query.
