You cannot carry out destructive testing on the job weld after heat treatment to assess effect of heat treatment on mechanical properties.
Hence test coupons are welded exactly following the same welding cycle/ process as that of job weld and along with job.
These teat coupons undergo heat treatment along with job weld. Destructive testing is carried out on the test coupons to assess the effect of heat treatment on the weld. If mechanical properties are meeting specified requirements, the joint is OK. If not reweld the joint & carry out heat treatment again,carry out destructive testing.
