Re: [MW:28317] For Demand Critical weld as per AWS D1.8

Neilash,

Thank you so much  for you reply. So the conclusion is that we need to go for  ( two ) PQR - 3G & 1G position and make one WPS with both the values. Also the consumable batch used in PQR need to be followed in production weld. Am i correct??

Suppose our consumable lot change we need to go for new PQR or not ( as essential variable ).... Or any other option to tackle this??
If possible can u share ur PQR /WPS ( for reference only ) to my personnel mail : jibinphilip123@gmail.com

Jibin ,

Normally demand critical welds , there is restriction in heat input , u need to consider and record high heat input welding using 3G vertical position and low heat input welding using 1G flat position ,both need to be addressed in PQR and WPS .
Also for demand critical Weld consumable lot is an essential variable , where the same lot to be used in production and WPS PQR .
For this u need to take approval from Manufacturer and from your Management to proceed with TPI .
Demand critical welds should be identified in drawing by engineering , so that u can proceed further .
Hope this clarifies , u can reach me below for further any clarification.
Recently I have done this qualification for aramco project .

Mr. JIBIN PHILIP,
THIS S275JR IS A STRUCTURAL NON ALLOY STEEL EQUIVALENT OF IS2062.
HOW EVER IN ANY WELDING HEAT INPUT IS ALWAYS CONTROLED THROUGH WPS
BY WAY OF TRAVEL SPEED. THE FORMULA FOR HEAT INPUT IS (v*a) / travel speed.
ANOTHER FACTOR TO REDUCE THE HEAT IN PUT IS TO PREHEAT THE JOB.

Dear All,

PQR : Code : AWS D1.1
Welding Process - FCAW ( E71T-1C )
Filler Size - 1.2mm
Material - S275JR to S275JR

For Demand Critical weld as per AWS D1.8, is there any heat Input restrictions are to be followed or not??. In our current WPS the Heat input mentioned are 0.6 to 1 kj/mm.Is this acceptable for Demand Critical weld application ??.  In AWS D1.8 - clause 6.8.1 mentioned as " The heat input range qualified by testing in accordance with Annex A. In annex A it showing a range of 1.2 to 3.1 kj/mm. Dear Experts please help .
