Re: [MW:21265] ASME CODE FOR SELECTION OF ELECTRODE AND CURRENT,VOLTAGE HEAT INPUT.

Codes gives details about chemical, mechanical properties and other technical
information towards weld metal properties.

It is we, who have to decide the combination, after studying base metal type, its
chemical & mechanical properties, thickness etc., but making sure that, weld metal
is stronger than the base metal and meets the end application..

The pre heat, pwht, other requirements are taken care of to get the best out of
welding, guidance from material code.

Amperage, Voltage is again selective and depends to large an extent upon, material
to be welded, thickness, position of welding, productivity, automation etc.

Any welding hand book if referred will guide you properly and will answer all your queries.

Subject: [MW:21255] ASME CODE FOR SELECTION OF ELECTRODE AND CURRENT,VOLTAGE HEAT INPUT.

Respected members,
I need to know if there is any standard or code present for the selection of electrodes and filler wires for similar and dissimilar welds or we are moving on conventions.
Secondly, do we have any code that permits the current and voltage of during a welding process?
