Hydro static Test no doubt, is a form of NDT and is most preferred method to detect a leak or crack in a vessel under waterpressure. Other NDT methods like MPT, DPT are normally done to confirm the extent of damage after leak point has been discovered.
Only water pressure is allowed for HT. Steam and Air Is not allowed. Hydro itself means water and for all practical purpose isin compressible and the pressure developed by the hydro static pump can be relieved instantaneously by releasing the very smallquantity of water which would happen on leak occurring.C Sridhar.
