Re: [MW:21232] HYDRO TEST

Dear all,

Can we conclude that Hydrotest is only a system strength test. But as it is not destructing the usability of system it can be considered as a NDE.
The most common method of system testing is Hydrotest. Then why it is not included in ASME Sec V or SNT TC 1-A?
Thanks in advance,

Gents,
Another statement in regards to hydro-test is: it is a system integrity confirmation test. It is not an NDT method.

In general terms its a kind of Non destructive test bcs the item is not destroyed.
But there is no need to make such a description. Hydrotest is hydrotest.

It neither Leak test nor any NDE method.
(It is not classified as NDE in Sec V or SNT-TC-1A)

Hydro static Test no doubt,  is  a form of NDT  and is most preferred method to detect a leak  or crack in a vessel under  water
pressure. Other NDT methods  like MPT, DPT are normally done to confirm the extent of damage after leak point has been discovered.

Only water  pressure is allowed for HT. Steam and Air Is not allowed. Hydro itself  means water and for all practical purpose is
in compressible and the pressure developed by the hydro static pump can be relieved instantaneously by releasing  the very small
quantity of water which would happen on leak occurring.
