Re: [MW:21191] Do we need full joint Re PWHT after weld repair

Hi K. M Hrishikesan ,
The code mention PWHT shall be full circumference for the fresh joint. Do you means the 30mm slag occurred after PWHT, if the answer yes , Wow ! someone has misinterprete the RT films or RT not done before PWHT ?Because PWHT cannot produce slag . RT before PWHT and weld repair before PWHT will save you a lot of time.
My opinion PWHT after weld repair can be localised PWHT as the idea with pressure vessel code API 510 allowing localised PWHT after weld repair or modification. If there is a serious integrity impact the ASME code members will not allowed it.

Please correct me if I am wrong

Reg weld joint of 24" x 22.2mm thk Pipe API 5L X 65 PSL-II Nace. RT was taken after PWHT.  A weld repair was done at a depth of 15 mm for slag of 30  mm length.
My query- do I have to re PWHT the full circumference of the joint or only the repaired segment. What are the impacts on the integrity of the joint in both cases.
