Mr. Ahmed Osman,

Surprise.... you don't know the material and you advised to use E9018-D1.!!!!!!!!

Please do not do such things. Be clear about the material, electrodes and process to be used before attempting to do any welding( Please do welding procedure qualifications before welding). Let not there be any disasters because of this type of actions....

Dear all, as per my opinion, we should not comment on using electrode, temp etc.......as the material is not known and he already done an experiment. By luck..... the crack appeared...if not...... Let him find any stenciling/punch/description or any thing that have proper tracability to the actual material used.

Mr. Ahmed Osman, there are many specialists in this group who can support you. Please come with the proper material, they will support you to have a trouble free welding process.

Dear Ahmed,

If you can't test the rail material for composition, atleast test with magnet.

Mostly, rails are made of Hadfield manganese steels which are non-magnetic.

If so, weld with AWS E 307 - 16 without any pre-heat on the rail part.

This is the best recommended solution for joining Hadfield steel to Carbon steel.

you should give the standard type written on the rail parts and search about that type material to know the electrode required.
