Re: [MW:7102] F-No&A-No of ERNiCrMo-3

Hi,

P.Number and F number are different and the numbers cannot be same and substituted.

For ERNiCrMo-3 F-Number is 43. For A number You can check with the QW-442 along with your Filler metal certificate to compare the chemical composition.Since it is a nickel based alloy, you check with the composition of A number 10 requirments.

Pls.find below the extraction of ASME appropriate sections.

QW-404.37 A change in the composition of the deposited

weld metal from one A-Number in table QW-442 to

65

any other A-Number, or to an analysis not listed in the table.

Each AWS classification of A-No. 8 or A-No. 9 analysis of

table QW-442, or each nonferrous alloy in table QW-432,

shall require separate WPS qualification. A-Numbers

QW-404.5 (Applicable only to ferrous metals.) A

change in the chemical composition of the weld deposit

from one A-Number to any other A-Number in table

QW-442. Qualification with A-No. 1 shall qualify for

A-No. 2 and vice versa.

The weld metal chemical composition may be determined

by any of the following:

(a) For all welding processes—from the chemical analysis

of the weld deposit taken from the procedure qualification

test coupon.

(b) For SMAW, GTAW, and PAW — from the chemical

analysis of the weld deposit prepared according to the

filler metal specification, or from the chemical composition

as reported either in the filler metal specification or the

manufacturer's or supplier's certificate of compliance.

Thanks & Regards,

Dear All,

I want to prepare a WPS for ,

material ASTM B 423 (P No-45).

Process - GTAW
Construction Code - ASME B31.3
Welding Code - ASME BPV SEC IX

What is the F - No. of ERNiCrMo-3?  43 or 45?One of the  WPS in my hand says 45 !!!
I have reviewed ASME BPV SEC IX QW 432,F-No. section and found that 43.Now I need clarification from experts, which one is correct 43 or 45?

What is the A - No. of ERNiCrMo-3? I have reviewed QW 422 A-Numbers section,but couldn't find.

Is there any condition that P- no. and F- no. shall be same?

Seniors, I need your help on this issue.

Regards,

Limesh

Heat tint (temper) colours on stainless steel surfaces heated in air // Heat tint

Introduction The colour formed when stainless steel is heated, either in a furnace application or in the heat affected zone of welds, is dependent on several factors that are related to the oxidation resistance of the steel. The heat tint or temper colour formed is caused by the progressive thickening of the surface oxide layer and so, as temperature is increased, the colours change.   Oxidation resistance of stainless steels However, there are several factors that affect the degree of colour change and so there is no a single table of colour and temperature that represents all cases. The colours formed can only be used as an indication of the temperature to which the steel has been heated. Factors affecting the heat tint colours formed Steel composition The chromium content is the most important single factor affecting oxidation resistance. The higher the chromium, the more heat resistant the steel and so the development of the heat tint colou...

Re: [MW:10788] ON PLOT PIPING & OFF PLOT PIPING

Piping systems involved for the flow lines and gathering lines from the well head isolation valve to the production facility or processing plant isolation valve are determined as OFF PLOT. ON PLOT defines piping system in the processing plant and production platform. ANSI/ASME B31.4 applies for off plot piping system. B31.4 allows the use of either API 1104 or ASME section IX (as appropriate). However, occasionally, a very small system such as piping within 500 feet of a processing plant (some client also said 400 feet) may be declared B31.3 rather than B31.4. When B31.3 is invoked, only ASME Section IX is used. before you decide which code to use for welding procedure and/or welder qualification for pipe welding, you have to know the design and construction code applicable to the system. Please read far enough into scope and diagram illustrating the application of either B31.3 and B31.4 hope this helps rgds 2011/4/21 pradip kumar sil < pradipsil@gmail.com > Dear all, ...
