Hi, Please find below the comments on your quiery. what will be the effect in Mechanical/chemical proerties of deposited weld metal of E7018 which is used for Structural welding of angle bar( material CS) without drying (at 260-430deg C) and Holinding(at 120 deg C). Can E7018 be used without proper drying and holding for stuructural welding( fillet weld only) of angle bar/supports(material CS). No. Using of Elctrodes without baking will leads to under-bead cracking. Usually whatever code that you are welding to will detail the process. API, AWS or whatever. It's the hydrogen trapped in the weld that makes the difference. Depending upon materials, the defect may not be detectable for several days. Also Pls.Find below the Extraction from AWS D1.1 for electrode restrictions on A514 and A517(if it is applicable to you) 5.3.2.5 Electrode Restrictions for ASTM A 514 or A 517 Steels. When used for welding ASTM A 514 or A 517 steels, electrodes of any classification lower than E100XX-X, except for E7018M and E70XXH4R, shall be baked at least one hour at temperatures between 700°F and 800°F [370°C and 430°C] before being used, whether furnished in hermetically sealed containers or Karthikeyan.S QA/QC Manager Getabec Energy Co.,Ltd. 379,Moo6,Soi8,Nikhomphatana, Rayong-21180, Thailand.
