Re: Re: [MW:7216] problem SS 316 flange to pipe welding

Hi,

whenever welding plate flange with pipe you have to give clearance of
1.5 mm on flange . same OD same ID how it will go? even drive fit it
require some clearance . this is the reason the job spoiled. while
welding steel will expand u have to consider coefficient of expansion
steel too.

for good sound welding insert the pipe smoothly inside the flange and
keep 6 mm below the face of flange face and weld fillet welding and
pipe OD to Flange ID weld fillet of 8 mm. .

jobs the flange has warped in two jobs it is beyond repairs to such a

extent that the face & od to be machined is beyond tolerances (od run

Anticipating this problem we have press  fit the components and made

the arrangements for rapid cooling but still this has happened

Now we need to manufacture 10 more flanged connection of the same

what precautions should be taken

The welding is done by GTAW 5mm thk fillet all over 5%thoriated 3mm

rod with filler ss 316L 2,5thk current 180Amps inside welding was

fused where as for out side welding filler was given
