Re: [MW:7173] Welder Qualification on WPS with PWHT

I will reply ur second question as I dont have ASME SEc IX right now ...
Welder Qualification Tests are conducted to gauge the ability of welder to deposit sound weld ... Addition of PWHT has nothing to do with the skill of welder under test hence it is NOT REQUIRED AT ALL ...

Best Regards,

Subject: [MW:7149] Welder Qualification on WPS with PWHT

Hi There,   I'm developing a WPS with the following criteria:   Welding Code: ASME IX Construction Code: ASME B31.3   Material: ASTM A333 / API 5L Thickness: 44.45mm; 400 NB pipe Preheat: 79°C PWHT: 593°C - 649°C as per table 331.1.1 of ASME B31.1   My question, is what is the thickness range, should I follow table 331.1.1 of ASME B31.1 for the minimum thickness, and table QW-451.1 of ASME IX for the maximum thickness?   Assuming all the necessary test on the coupon for the PQR have passed, and we need to do some welder qualification on the same WPS, do we need to do PWHT on the test coupon?   Thank you in advance.     Cheers,   Larry
