Re: [MW:31752] QUERY RELATED TO PWHT IN PQR & WPS

Per ASME IX, Post Weld Heat Treat is an essential variable.
You can only use the PQR that is established with post weld heat treat for production fabrication(s) that requires post weld heat treat.
If the production fabrication(s) does not require post weld heat treat, please establish a new PQR That does not undergo PWHT......
Per ASME IX you cannot use an established PQR with PWHT, To create a WPS for the use without PWHT. Hence, PWHT is an essential variable per ASME IX......
Requalification is needed.....

Dear Experts

Greetings of the day,

I Have an existing PQR of carbon steel P1G1 to P1G1 OF MATERIAL THICKNESS 21.94" & Diameter 6".

GTAW – 5.97mm & SMAW -17.1mm

PWHT – 640 deg. Cel. With soak time 75 min.

Impact test – Not Applicable

By using this PQR Can I make WPS for P1G1 to P1G1.Where T= 5mm to 25mm without PWHT (AS PER ASME B31.3  Para 331.1.1&331.1.3).

Because as per my project scope I need only 25mm maximum base metal thickness. So, for this I need to do PWHT or NOT. Although I have did PWHT in PQR.
