SS welded regions readily rust in the presence of moisture ,unless iron from welding fume deposits are immediately removed.
It is a very common issue and shows a lack of attention to post welding clean-up.
At least wire brushing is the minimum necessary application.
The rusting is the oxidation of the condensed iron on the SS weldment surface and surrounding zone.
