Re: [MW:30901] welding electrode selection fro API 5L X70 grade pipe

Dear experts,

Before using cellulosic electrodes in thermo mechanical processed pipes used in high sulphur environment. Pl consider the effects on sulphur corrosion cracking during operation.

Dear Sir

I have established the PQR in our ongoing project in Kuwait with E6010 root and other passes E7018, used this combination for Tie in welds only.
but for mainline we used Automatic mechanized welding process GMAW, production and quality wise the best method to carried out mainline welding.
selection of process and electrode completely depends upon your project spam, size of pipe with respect to thickness.
In India we have done x70 grade pipelines with following electrode
1.E6010-root and 8010 otherpasses,
2.E6010 root, E8010 hot pass and E81T1 Manual FCAW other passes.
3. E6010 root, E9045 P2H4R and FCAW GS other passes.
its all depend on your project client requirements.

With Regards
Vinay Digarse

I don't think E7018 is appropriate. If you have established any PQR then kindly share
