[MW:30947] longitudinal bend test . Asme Section IX. Welding qualifications.

My question is, according to ASME section IX, if we are going to qualify a welding procedure with  a stainless steel base metal (P number 8) with a carbon steel (a P number 1), using a stainless steel filler metal .  Is it necessary to make longitudinal bent specimens to qualify the procedure? See  QW-161.5 Longitudinal-Bend Tests."Longitudinal bend tests may be used in lieu of the transverse sidebend, face‐bend, and root‐bend tests for testing weld metal or base metal combinations, which differ markedly in bending properties between (a) the two base metals, or (b) the weld metal and the base metal" Are the differences beetween these to metals considered markedly different?  If in the previous example it was decided to use a Nickel electrode which differs in ductility from carbon steel, would it be necessary to do longitudinal bent ? I am preparing to the certified welding inspector exam in my country.  Regards, -- https://materials-welding.blogspot.com/ https://w...

[MW:30941] Re: Special process

At least a dozen chromium molybdenum (CrMo) steel combinations exist. One of the more recent alloys consists of chromium, molybdenum, vanadium, niobium (columbium), and nitrogen. This material became popular for use in high-temperature applications, such as gas and coal-fired power plants. However, it is not intended to replace other CrMo types. Each alloy has its own place in the high-strength, low-alloy group of materials. On Friday, 29 May 2020 09:52:44 UTC+3, tamizh wrote: Dear Experts can anybody answer for the below questions.? Re: [MW:30941] Welder qualifications B31.3 K328.2.1(b)

Dear Vimal, No, it does not say that one has to re-qualify the welders. It says that : ""b) Test weldments shall be made using the same specification and type or grade of base metal(s), and the same specification and classification of filler metal(s) as will be used in production welding."" It means if the welders have been qualified as per above conditions, no need to re-qualify the welders. Hope, your query has been answered. Dear Charles, The choice of welding parameters like current and Voltage is dependent on the choice of welding process and consumable used and not on Carbon Equivalent. Re: [MW:30924] SS-316L Rusting

SS welded regions readily rust in the presence of moisture ,unless iron from welding fume deposits are immediately removed. It is a very common issue and shows a lack of attention to post welding clean-up. At least wire brushing is the minimum necessary application. The rusting is the oxidation of the condensed iron on the SS weldment surface and surrounding zone. D Harvey, PhD.
