[MW:26931] RE: 26929] Alloy PMI after PWHT(piping)

You may read through API-RP-578, clause 4.0 and various associated sub-clauses. PWHT does not cause any major change in the alloy content of the base metals and the welds. Alloying elements may diffuse within the matrix, during PWHT, instead of being locally segregated. Thus the PMI results after PWHT could be more consistent than before PWHT. Although such changes could be very microscopic.

Design codes does not specify at what point such verification is to be done. It's clients' call.

If the PMI technique is XRF, it may be performed before or after PWHT.

If the technique is OES, then many clients prefer this before PWHT, as arcing during the OES process may leave arc stains/marks . Such marks  may require grinding of buffing, not usually desirable after PWHT, due to chances of human errors.

Thanks.

Subject: [MW:26929] Alloy PMI after PWHT(piping)

Dear Friends

Would Some one explain me  regarding Alloy materials(P11 and P5) having PWHT, but contractor side suggest they want to PMI before PWHT.

I want is there is against code or mentioned in our codes.
