[MW:22445] Clad 625 - Minimum number of layers

Hello.

As per Asme IX of course! 2 layers qualify 3 and more...

Now it depends if in your client spec the a change of number of layer is put as an essential variable.
... Now you can also do 5mm with 2 layers only and post-machining if the qualification hasn't been dont yet.

If client asks for 3 layers in case of postmachining you can clarify with him 2 layers only with an increase bead thk and a charpy testing after overlay removal in BM+HAZ (even if Ithink telling that sampling the HAZ is a little tricky) to justify that the increased Heat input (needed to have 5mm with 2 layers) didn't affect toughness.

Please clarify your overlay process. Single / twin head, single torch on each head? One filler on first torch and two fillers on second?

Hope it helps,

Regards
Rėmi
