[MW:14760] Re: corrosion under pipe Supports

Dear Mr Krish,

I would like to recommend to use high-frequency ultrasonic guided wave testing. In your writing, " I tried with guided waves, with bad results, " I believe that you tested the pipe support with low-frequency guided wave equipment, especially using discrete belt of piezoelectric transducers. The low-frequency guided wave reflects from the contact point between the pipe and pipe support and generates big reflection. The big reflected signal and trailing signals make it difficult to inspect the corrosion defect in the pipe support area.

However, the high-frequency guided wave  has much less or no reflection from the boundary between the pipe support and pipe. Therefore, the high-frequency guided wave can inspect the corrosion under the pipe support. It has no near-field zone and about 5-inch dead zone length so that you can install the probe close to the pipe support and test it. If you use a flexible plate probe, you can install it along the pipe circumferential direction or axial direction. The plate probe has several length of from 1 inch to 12 inches that will cover pipe support of any pipe OD.

Hope you will get my point with stylish line of attack.

Thanks & regards,

Dear All,

please advice me for inspection  of corrosion under pipe Supports, But Without lifting the pipe from the support. I need to find a quick way of Inspecting the pipes at Each pipe support with some kind of handheld device and NDT to Identify, screen for severity and to measure the Defects Preferably Between the pipe and pipe support.

I tried with guided waves, with bad results. Has anyone successfully tested a system?

thanks
