[MW:14909] RE: 14905] From GTAW bare filler with Ar shield to GTAW Fux Cored filler without Ar shield

You must requalify.  See essential variable QW-404.23  in the filler metal group in the list of variables for GTAW, QW-256.

Subject: [MW:14905] From GTAW bare filler with Ar shield to GTAW Fux Cored filler without Ar shield

Gents,
This one is related to switch over of GTAW electrode - from a bare one requiring Ar purging + shielding to the other flux cored one not requiring purging + shielding due to inaccessibility and large / long pipe sections under welding.
We have a WPS for using ER308L - Esab which requires Ar purging and shielding. But now, due to difficulties in maintaining Ar gas inside the long sections of large dia SS 304L pipes during root pass our contractor has suggested another electrode which does not need Ar purging + shielding.

Is this switch over allowed without re-qualification?

Alternate electrode suggested is this: KOBE TGX 308L STAINLESS STEEL FLUX CORED TIG WIRE (possibly 2.2 mm dia)

Thanks,

Shashank Vagal
