You have to prepare a new WPS and qualify the welding procedure. Change in filler metal product form is an Essential variable as per ASME Sec.IX QW-404.23 QW-404.23 A change from one of the following filler metal product forms to another: (a) bare (solid) or metal cored (b) flux cored (c) flux coated solid or metal cored (d) powder Is an essential variable for GTAW process. Gents, This one is related to switch over of GTAW electrode - from a bare one requiring Ar purging + shielding to the other flux cored one not requiring purging + shielding due to inaccessibility and large / long pipe sections under welding. We have a WPS for using ER308L - Esab which requires Ar purging and shielding. But now, due to difficulties in maintaining Ar gas inside the long sections of large dia SS 304L pipes during root pass our contractor has suggested another electrode which does not need Ar purging + shielding. Is this switch over allowed without re-qualification? Alternate electrode suggested is this: KOBE TGX 308L STAINLESS STEEL FLUX CORED TIG WIRE (possibly 2.2 mm dia) Thanks, Shashank Vagal | -- To post to this group, send email to materials-welding@googlegroups.com To unsubscribe from this group, send email to materials-welding+unsubscribe@googlegroups.com For more options, visit this group's bolg at http://materials-welding.blogspot.com/The views expressed/exchnaged in this group are members personel views and meant for educational purposes only, Users must take their own decisions w.r.t. applicable code/standard/contract documents.
