[MW:5108] RE: 5103] RE: 955] RE: 954] CC2235 UT in lieu of RT and the name plate marking

In our shop, some of the equipment TOFD carried out for partial weld joints
and RTed of some joints due to inaccessibility & joint configuration for
TOFD. We punch both RT1/UT in the name plate and provided code case, extent
of TOFD and RT in the MDR.

plate marking

Further to following discussion I would like opinion of members for the name
plate marking in case a vessel is only ultrasonically tested.

UG 116(e) states "When radiographic or ultrasonic examination has been
performed on a vessel in accordance with UW-11, marking shall be applied
under the Code Symbol as follows: i.e. RT1, RT2, RT3 etc..
However code case 2235-9 states Name plate shall be marked under code symbol
stamp by applying UT (para k of code case)

My understanding is only UT will be stamped on name plate and extent of
examination, code case will mentioned on MDR
However we go only by UG116 we can mark RT1 on name plate and specify code
case number, extent etc on MDR, I also understand few mfrs specify code case
number on name plate too beside RT1

Members please share your opinion and practice followed in your shops.

Dear Raghuram,

Generally we give marking as RT-1 only with a note in Manufacturer's data
book (MDR) that UT for so and so seams was carried out in lieu of RT.

Dear Raghavendra
Since you are using CC2235, I have a doubt on Name plate marking as per
UG116 for div 1 vessels. In case when a portion of the vessel RT**ed as
per UW11(a) and the remaining portion UT*ed per CC 2235 in lieu of RT,
what will be the marking, is it RT-1?

Dear Rohit and Raghuram,
Thanks for the information related to Codes, standards and
Specifications.
Our Organisation has obtained 'N' Stamp from ASME during last year and
once the nuclear treaty is signed between India and USA, we have got
bright chances to get orders for manufacture of Nuclear power related
Equipments from abroad.
As we could successfully replace RT by UT as per CC2235 incase of
Sec.VIII vessels, I want the same trend to continue in case of Sec.III
of ASME as well, which are expected in future. But all nuclear new
construction codes of ASME are strong believers in Radiography. I am
looking for a hint to extend TOFD on nuclear new construction also.
That is why my query related to the same.
Hope I could convey.
regards,
Raghavendra
