Re: [MW:27982] RT requirement for nozzle to shell welds

RT-1 is full radiography. And there is a difference between full radiography vs 100% radiography. If 100% radiography is required then you need to provide lip joints for all nozzle to shell junctions which can be radiographed.
Coming to the main question, UT is not required as it's not a mandatory requirement. You need to perform PT/MT for nozzle to shell junctions, Soap bubble test for RF pads.
UT can be performed in lieu of RT on lip joints if 100% RT is a requirement.

Dear Experts,

I would like to get info on following scenario.

Design code : ASME Sec : VIII Div. I

RT requirement : RT1

Service : Not Sour / lethal /  cyclic etc (Sulfur recovery Incinerator package).

The vessel having set in type nozzle with full penetration groove. This nozzle to shell weld cannot be radio graphed (Not lip type).  Is it required to do UT of nozzle to shell weld (Category D) joints for this vessel  if RT is not possible ?.

Please see attached joint configuration.

Thanks & Regards
