Re: [MW:27742] Dia range.for WPS as per API 1104

Hi

API 1104 covers welding procedures qualifications as below,

Case

1.    Clause 5 Welds Containing Filler-metal Additives

2.    Clause 12 Mechanized Welding with Filler Metal Additions

3.    Clause 13 Automatic Welding Without Filler metal Additions

Diameter range is not essential for case 1 WPS/PQR, i.e. 5.3.2.3 however "the ranges of outside diameters and wall thicknesses over which the procedure is applicable shall be identified".

Means unlike ASME sec 9, WPS/PQR format, additionally you may need to specify the restriction on outside diameter and thickness in order to facilitate to have control on welders use in production welding ( based on clause 6.2.2 d )

Diameter range for case 2 & 3 WPS/PQR is essential variable, refer respective clauses - 12.5.2.5 & 13.5.2

Also refer API 1104 interpretation ( specifically Page 82 /94 ) attached herewith for more details. There are many questions based on this topic only.
