Hi Prasad,

 

As explained previously by one of the forum members , ferrite to the extent of 3-6%(volumetric) or 3-6FN is required in the 316/316L welds to avoid hot cracking. Welding consumables are manufactured with the required composition chemistry to achieve this target.

 

However measurement of ferrite in the welds are  process/project requirement. All corrosive services involving 300 series alloys  calls for mandatory "Ferrite " control in  welds.

 

What's the operating service  involved in the design??
