Re: [MW:25596] Regarding electrode for dissimilar base metal

Hi

If Carbon content is more than 1.6% they are called cast irons.

In your case it is a high carbon steel.

Subject: [MW:25593] Regarding electrode for dissimilar base metal

Dear Sir,
I come across critical situation of welding with cast iron to carbon steel plate.cast iron Material IS2707 GR1 to SA 516 GR 70 or SA 36 (plate).

Following chemical composition of cast iron:
Carbon: 0.472%,Mn: 0.891%,Si: 0.566%,P: 0.04%,S:0.04%

Kindly suggest us SMAW welding electrodes and preheat and post heating requirement during welding of same dissimilar base metal.

Regards,
Vivek Pandey
