RE: [MW:25610] Comparison for FCAW & GMAW

I note that it is a big job, and assume it is on onshore pipeline of many km in length. Automated GMAW (bug and band systems) are commonplace in the welding of oil and gas pipelines. Productivity can be excellent, assuming the terrain is suitable and the organisation of the welding spread is properly planned and organised. The issue of lack of fusion is managed by good welding procedures, which are qualified per project. There are many systems but you could start by looking at CRC-Evans and viewing their excellent videos which you will find online and give you a good idea of how it all works. A Google search will find other competing systems.

GMAW is prone to lack of fusion

it is better to go with FCAW because consumable is suitable for all position welding

Hi friends,

We have a big pipe line job in water segment.

We are planning to implement FCAW or GMAW technique to expedite the welding activity…

Please suggest me that which technique is most favorable for IS2062 material (equivalent to Pno 1) at site for 5G or 6G position…..

Your detail explanation will be more helpful on selecting the process….

Also in terms of cost – which will be economical for the project ….

Thanks & Regards,

Lakshman Kumar B,

Project Manager.
