Subject: [MW:25592] Storage Tanks (API-650) Settlement Reading Range

Dear Experts,

I need your option and advice regarding Tank Survey Settlement, As specified in API 650, clause # 7.3.6.5 (2). This clause refers “Observed elevations shall be referred to a permanent bench mark. The level instrument shall be set up at least 1 ½ times tank diameter away from the tank when tank elevation readings are taken”

Practically it looks impossible, if the tank diameter is more than 60 matters. We have 68/72/84 and 106 diameter tanks in our scope of work, I participate with our surveyor team for the settlement survey, if we are  1 ½ times tank diameter away from the tank the reading or result can’t be accurate. Yes if we are near to tank like 20 to 30 meters away from the Tank than found all settlement reading accurate.

Our client insist to maintain the distance according to API 650, clause # 7.3.6.5.even the required distance range is outside the dike wall.

Please advise.

Looking forward to you,

Thanks& Regards,

Akmal Malik
