Re: [MW:12525] surface imperfections observed on Shell Surface of a Pressure Vessel

Dear Asad,

as per my understanding these mark are roller mark which come after rolling when the surface of the roller is not smooth but for corrosion. it is not dependt upon surface irregularitie,s for its occurance three factor must be there...
1) Cathod
2) Anode
3) Electorlyte

if you successful to remove any of the factor there will be no corrosion regardless the surface apperance , mostly we remove electrolyte in this triangle  in the form of paint.hower the life of the paint will be distrubed in the surface is irregular and uneven and there is chance of moisture intrapped.

Dear All,

Greetings.

A vessel is being fabricated as per ASME SEC VIII DIV 1.

Surface imperfections( NOT Pittings)  were observed on the surface of the shell of the Vessel. please refer attached photos.

The shell material is SA 516 GR 70, 17 mm Thk.

Plaese inform me what will be the effect of these imperfections on shell in terms of Corrosion.

Do these imperfections required Grinding OR can be left as it is.

Thanks & Regards
