Dear Manoj,
-- As per ASME Sec-IX, If you want to use the Root Pass of one PQR on second PQR, it should be qualified on atleast 13mm thick plate.
Hope this will clarify.

Dear All,
I have to weld 40 mm thk ss 304 plate to be welded with root GTAW and
subsequent run by SMAW. I have 2 WPS,one WPS GTAW + SMAW thickness
range qualified is 1.6 to 12 mm and another procedure qualified 5 mm
to 50 mm with back gouging.
My doubt is can i make one wps supporting with these 2 Procedure
Root with GTAW and subsequent run with SMAW so i can carry out the
welding with GTA + SMAW 40 mm thk without further procedure
qualification.
Thanks & Regards.
Manoj
