Before changing just go through the ASME secII Part C for SMAW of your
selected electrode and see the requirement of polarity and also go
through the manufacturers recommendation.

>Dear All,
In SMAW process, generally the polarity is DCEP(Direct Current
Electrode Positive).I would like to get some advise on my following
queries.
1. Is there any problem, if I am changing the polarity to DCEN in SMAW
process?
2. Is this polarity change has any effect on metallurgical properties
of materials comes under carbon steel family?
3. Is this polarity change has any effect on metallurgical properties
of non ferrous materials?
Regards,
