Re: [MW:8911] No.of Joints

Shell is hanged for carrying static load at other end and surrounding temperature is around 50 degC.

Dear Mr.Pawar,

Can you please tell, whether this clarification is for tanks or pressure vessels?

If it is for tank, following thing clarifies:

Vertical joints in adjacent shell courses shall not be aligned, but shall be offset from each other a minimum distance of 5t,where t is the plate thickness of the thicker course at the point of offset.(Ref API 650 10th edition,sec.5.1.5.2.b).

So when you are designing based on the above, you must consider nozzle openings ,supports as there will be possibility of clashing with welding seams.

Dear Members,
For shell ,generally one ' L' -seam joint occurs but if we want to give additional ' L'-seam due to various plate sizes availability ,then what is the minimum length between two joints and how many such joints are allowed ,what precaution to be taken to maintain functionality of such shell.
