[MW:31375] RE: 31371] PWHT Thickness Requirements.

Hi , Which version of B31.3 code you're following , 2018 or older?. You may still avoid PWHT, if the design code is of 2018 edition. See the exemption clauses from B31.3 -2018 as highlighted. Note : If PWHT is mandated by design or process condition, e.g. sour service or other conditions, PWHT is mandatory irrespective of thickness . The  designer has to specify that in the drawing. All appropriate clauses are highlighted for better understanding. Hope this would help you.   Thanks.     Pradip Goswami, P. [MW:31371] PWHT Thickness Requirements.

Dear all Pls what is the current thickness requirements for PWHT as per ASME B31.3?  I came across old version of the code, it specifies that PWHT not required for all P1 materials, provided min preheat is maintained at 95deg'C. We intend welding; 18" sch 80(23.83mm) to ASTM A 106, 24" sch 80(30.8mm), is PWHT required? Cite relevant Code sections Please. RE: [MW:31363] RE: 31360] Re: As per ASME Sec IX Ed. 2019, ASME Sec VIII, Div-1 and API RP 582

Hello, You would almost certainly have to go Charpy impact  test for 32.88mm thickness and MDMT 5 Centigrade. It is per UCS 66 (a) ASME Section VIII, Div. 1. Combining thickness, temperature and materials (SA 516 Gr 60 / SA 516 Gr.70), you would be slightly below curve B of Fig. UCS 66 M. This, for the WPS with this combination of base materials.   Anyway, recheck the final thickness. And compare with the data given by the Curve.   It is also possible that my assessment is wrong. It's a matter of reading what the experts have already told you.   Ramon Briceno   Sent from Mail for Windows 10   From: Vinoth Rajendran Sent: Friday, August 28, 2020 11:45 AM To: materials-welding@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: [MW:31362] RE: 31360] Re: As per ASME Sec IX Ed. 2019, ASME Sec VIII, Div-1 and API RP 582   Hi,   Your WPS will make as per ASME or API???     On Fri, Aug 28, 20...
