RE: [MW:29635] I need to do dissimilar weld joint (6xxx series Aluminium to Steel). What filler wire should I choose?

Aluminum can't be directly welded to Steel by any Arc welding process. Arc welding between any steel to aluminum causes formation of intermetallic compounds at the interface, which makes the weld joint extremely brittle. Look at the YouTube, there're many videos on this subject.

The only way to perform arc welding of such dissimilar combination is to use a transition piece  of steel to Aluminum, produced by solid state welding process.

This article from ESAB , explains some of the problems of such welding.

Thanks.
