Re: [MW:14451] RE: Filler metal with lower strength thsn base metal

Hi César Alexis Viteri Pérez

Greeting for the day!

E 6010 electrodes are normally used for root pass welding in cross country pipeline construction, can also be used for structure application where back chipping is not possible, deep penetration is required and HIC is not a major concern.

The reasons for using E 6010 in pipelines are as follows.

1. Usually the root pass speed determines the speed that the pipeline may be constructed.

2. Can be welded by vertical-down progression, which is the traditional and most popular method and offers the fastest welding speeds and can even accommodate poor joint fit-up

3. E 6010 contains titanium coating, which helps in good arc stability and easy slag removal during root pass welding.

To achieve the required joint strength, further passes shall be made with low hydrogen electrodes with matching electrodes with proper precautions like preheating if required, proper heat input & Inter pass temperature control.

regards,
Sudhakar
