As per asme code31.3 no specific requirement of joint to be clean form
primer or paint.
As per code para 345.3.1 "joint exposed " All joints, welds
(including structural attachment welds to pressure-containing
com-ponents), and bonds shall be left uninsulated and exposed for
examination during leak testing, except that joints previously tested
in accordance with this Code may be insulated or covered. All joints
may be primed and painted prior to leak testing unless a sensitive
leak test (para. 345.8) is required.
At present senior most of client like ONGC ,IOCL are following
painted joint up to primer application (F9 etc ) or up to intermediate
paints for final painting of fabricated pipe spools trend are not
completely adopt in india specifically at the corrosive area like near
sea etc . same above are preferably .
