of course service affect the hardness, for example if you have your weld in conact with ammonia gas at certain temp. nitriding will occur , thus will raise the hardness of your weld, also carburizing may occur if conditions promote this, thus depends on the service ,the fluied, or just operating temp of the weldment, some microstructure may occur and cause change in hardness..

yes of course and that is called seasoned hardened some little changes
may be there.
