[MW:8192] RE: 8179] Weld Macro examination

Pavainathan,

You are not going to like this reply! As with most questions, you must
first spell out what Code you are trying to comply with and then what
type of weld.

Consider ASME Section IX, the following apply:

- For stud welding, QW-192.1.4, examination at 10X

- For tube-to-tube sheet welding, QW-193.1.3, examination 10X to 20X

- For laser beam welding, QW-197.1, minimum 25X

- For flash welding, QW-199.1.3, examination at 5X

God knows what the ISO/EN/BS specs require - it's a thread I prefer not
to try and unravel unless I absolutely must.

Regard the issue of upper case, X, or lower case, x, there is no
difference - just a personal preference - in this usage the x only means
"times".

Hope this helps.

John

Subject: [MW:8179] Weld Macro examination

Dear members,
I've a question about Macro examination in
PQR's. What is the minimum magnifcation level we need to have? ,is
there any reference standard/specification .
One of my client spec syas it must be x5 .I have come across with
various PQR review this magnification level is varying a range from
x2.7 ,x3.4,x4.0&x5.0.

Also is there any significance in referring the letter in small
case(x5) or Caps(X5)

Any one can put your expertise in this regard.
