Yes if your repair WPS qualified as per API1104.
(note you have to prepare gmaw specimen with repair done by smaw as per your thickness and dia requirement since you have not given any materials and thukness details.).
pl.share welding technology and materials n thickness details for specific answer from group experts.

Re: [MW:19141] electrode mechanical testing

Dear friend

Generally mechanical tests prepared from a radiography accepted test assembly which is welded in predefined conditions. Such tests are tensile (all weld meta), impact and in few cases transverse tensile, hardness and bend test. Also chemical analysis from weld metal or rod may be added. (for details you have to refer to the related std.)

About the quality, all approved producers shall satisfy minimum requirements indicated by standards. But the subject is how much they can be overqualified. They work on the usability of they products and improving the consuming time and economical issues. So the producer is very important and some specifications require re-qualification in case of changing welding consumables producers.

The beam will be made of a high strength steel in order to reduce the weight. In most of the cases such cracks are being caused by fatigue. It seems to me that the welds present on the first picture have bad transition at weld toe and that undercuts are present at the side of the weld which may initiate fatigue cracks. If you want to repair this beam in my opinion you need to replace a part of the beam flanges in order to distribute the stresses caused by welding activities, and a new stiffener plate need to be put in place. I would suggest to use a high frequency hammering technology, such like Pneumatic Impact Treatment in order to reduce the tensile stresses caused by welding at the surface and to introduce beneficial compressive stresses in order to increase the fatigue strength of the new welds.
The removed part can be used for mechanical testing in order to determine the actual kind of material. I would suggest a minimum of tensile test and chemical analyses.

[MW:19127] Re: Presuure test with Hydraulic Oil.

Never had a satisfactory graph.
Theres a sudden initial drop (mostly) or rise after pressuring.
During holding time the rise or drop in pressure relative to the atmospheric temperature variation is too much.
Tried the same test early morning , midnight mid noon and all different times, results are weird graphs.
Subcontractor is not giving a convincing explanation and insists its a normal thing for hydraulic pressure tests.

Is it normal?
does anyone else have similar experiences or any presentable explanations?

Re: Fwd: [MW:19134] Change in Supplementary Essential Need re-qualification?

Hi Ezzat, In simple english, When the client calls for for WPS with Charpy Impact, then the group no. comes into picture,
In other words, if you have a PQR with a particular P No and Group No., you can generate any no of wps from that PQR provided that the material that is going to be listed in the WPS falls within the P No. (provided there is no CVN requiremnt). You dont have to look at the Group no. at all.
BUT
When there is a CVN requirement, you can use the PQR to develop a WPS ONLY for the particular P No. and Group No. You have to see that the material in construction should belong to the same P No. and Group No.

Depending on the age of the Crane in my opinion it can be S355, S460 or S690 material. That is why I suggest to execute some mechanical tests on the material.

can you please specify the specification of the said Grade?
