Re: [MW:18959] UT for RT as per AWS D1.1 or ASME SEC V

Dear Vinu,

You can  propose UT in lieu of RT ,there is no restriction as per AWS D1.1.

Method of NDT shall be specified in contract documents only not in AWS D1.1

But most of the clients prefers RT because of  easy interpretation when compared with Manual UT.

In manual UT ,if technician and inspector are not skilled enough it may lead to conflict during inspection. Using Advance UT methods  may not be affordable for Structural applications

You decide which method to be adopted only by discussing with Client representative ,NOT BY CODE REFERENCE as a back up document!

Dear Experts,

We are fabricating steel encapsulations for Dolphin Structures. Material is EH36.
Client has proposed for 10%RT for butt joints. Can I propose for 10% UT instead for RT as per  AWS D1.1 or ASME SECV.

Requesting for extact reference from codes.

Thanks in advance
