Hi, I will give you simple reason. Stub in or stub on(Set in or Set on) welding depends on the design requirement based on weld strength. Stub in welding strength is as good as butt welding.Sometimes stub welding is difficult in actual conditions.(Incomplete penetration,electrode handling problems etc.,) Stub on welding strength will also be good with the root gap of 2-3 mm with the throat thickness 8-12mm.
