[MW:3155] Re: Repair Weld

Unless other code applicable the ASME IX do not restrict any repair.

If you have a P8 to P8, same conditions, filet or root approved WPS and welder,

Yes, you can repair. You are welding P8 to P8. This is the case. It doesn’t matter if the case is a repair or not.

1st you have to remove the defect.

2nd show evidence that de defect was completely removed by any NDE,  PT or RT or UT,

3sd reweld by the process you chose (GTAW).

4th show evidence the weld results are acceptable by any NDE applicable.

Good luck

Hi,

thank you very mch for your prompt reply. But our client is not accepting the repair work with GTAW process. How to convince them? Can you tell me how to convince them with the code backup document?

Your early response in this regard will be highly appreciated.

When you have the WPS for each welding process either seperately or a combined one , you can do the repair on fillet weld.

Hi,

We have to repair a fillet weld joint which is welded by SMAW process. Material is SS (A312 Gr316L). Can we do the repair with GTAW? Is it allowed as per any code? Please give me the reference also.

We have a WPS for GTAW process on SS Material (A312 Gr316L).
