Re: [MW:22681] Lateral Expansion - High Alloy Impact test

Some alloy steels shown better relationship between actual impact properties with lateral expansion instead of joules value of absorbed energy. This has been practiced in papers specially in case of high absorbed energies.

why lateral expansion value of Min. 0.38 mm given in ASME Sec VIII Div I , UHA-51 for Charpy Impact Tests, instead of Joule Value for High Alloy steels like Duplex, Super Duplex etc.

What is the significance of Lateral expansion for such High Alloys.
