Fw: [MW:18321] ASME Sec IX WPS Prepration

To whoever reading this,

- Welding consumables (eg..different brand of filler metal, ceramic backing, etc) are like medicine where many product saleperson tried to push through with
friskbee or cheaper. We've many welding issues regarding cracks during production despite approved WPS. During WPQT, its all proper recording &
environment control with good welders. Its all made believed. The skill of different welders affect the mechanical properties and stress level of a weld as well.
- There are other consideration for WPQT, eg... Per delivering mill, Per as-delivery condition, Per each steel grade, Per each steel quality (impact test
requirements), carbon equivalent limit, type of weld prep, beside other essential variables.

So, to be a professional in dealing with WPS, one has to be educated in fieldwork (not academic, courses or just asking questions) in many trial and errors.

Dear Mr. Bilal,

For being expert in WPS preparation, one should continuously prepare WPSs for different material specifications, thickness ranges, welding processes and various other conditions viz. PWHT, without PWHT, impact test and other parameters. It is not only to prepare WPSs but one should also use these documents in shop/ field.

There are training courses also available viz. "Preparation of WPS/PQR" being conducted by reputed institutes like Indian Institute of Welding.

Thanks & Best Regards,
Rajnish Dixit

Dear Experts!

After having a basic knowledge of welding, welding inspection according to approved procedures, how one can be an expert of WPS preparation according to ASME Sec IX ?

What is professional approach for this..What basic steps one has to fallow ..as you have a code and you cannot memorize all of  it....its just for reference

Thanks in advance

M Bilal
