[MW:16931] Re: How filler wire & electrode selected for GTAW & SMAW

The filler wire selection is based on the mechanical properties and chemical properties.
The idea is that after welding the joint must withstand against the required strength.

In special cases, there may be additional requirements like corrosion resistance, use at elevated temperature, use at sub zero temperature or anything which is referred as special.

For SS you need to control the chemical analysis as well as mechanical properties.
So filler wire should able to fullfill both the requirements.

Dear Welding experts,

I like to know how we are selecting the filler wire and electrode for
Steel & Steel alloys.
Based on the tensile strength of the base material it is selected. I
need the specific technical parameters how we are selecting the filler
wire or electrode. Please guide me for the process,

2. A240 TYPE 304 TO A240 TYPE 316L
3. A240 TYPE 316L TO A240 TYPE 316L
4. A240 TYPE 321  TO A240 TYPE 304
