Re: [MW:16068] Weld buttering

WPS qualified on groove welds can be used for weld build up as permitted by QW-202.3 of ASME SEC IX.

 

Existing WPS for groove welds can be revised to include weld metal build up.

 

Pls. check for insert plate option instead of weld build up in consultation with Design Engineer & Client.

1. by mistake my fabricator has made 4" hole in mother pipe (for branch connection) instead of 3", to overcome this issue he had weld (butter) the area by tig welding to meet actual requirement, somehow client came to know the issue and reject the spool, due to non availability of buttering procedure. we already have PQR for groove welding by tig process for same material.

pl advice what i can do in this regards, or to qualify procedure PIPE SIZE 54" THK 19 MM, also provide ref. std copy of procedure
