[MW:16032] RE: 16022] PROCEDURE QUALIFICATION - B690 seamless AL6XN pipe (SPEC # SB 366 UNS # N08367)

Hi Bala,

Please see the attached document for your reference. Following is the recommendation on the selection of shielding gas for GTAW.. If welding involves a thicker section use of Argon+Helium would be quite helpful. AL6XN is a fully austenitic alloy,  and may have  low fluidity of the weld puddle. A switch to mixed gas could be advisable. However a change in the weld bevel (higher Vee Prep) may be helpful.

Thanks

Gas Tungsten Arc Welding — Shielding and backing gas should be completely inert or contain 3-5% N2 for enhanced corrosion resistance. Argon or argon helium mixes are often used .

Subject: [MW:16022] PROCEDURE QUALIFICATION - B690 seamless AL6XN pipe (SPEC # SB 366 UNS # N08367)

Hello Expert,

I like to establish Welding Procedure for the material “ B690 seamless AL6XN pipe (SPEC # SB 366 UNS # N08367)  using ERNiCrMo-10 & ENiCrMo-10.  I tired with Argon 99.9% shielding gas for root and observed that penetration was not satisfactory, The filler wire is recommended by the client.

Will you please recommend your suggestions and alternate method to get good penetration .
